Samsung Announces Five More Cameras
The six cameras Samsung announced at the recently completed CES 2010 apparently were only the beginning. Samsung now has announced plans for an additional five cameras that represent a mixture of large-zoom and ultra-compact models. The five cameras are:
- HZ30W. With 12 megapixels of resolution, the HZ30W includes a 10X optical zoom lens.
- HZ35W. The HZ35W (pictured here) features a 15X optical zoom lens and a 3.0-inch AMOLED display, making it an impressive consumer-level camera.
- SL630. Samsung is adding to its value line of cameras with this model, which includes limited wide angle capabilities in its 5X optical zoom lens.
- TL105. The TL105 is an ultra-compact model, measuring only 0.65 inches in thickness, while still offering HD video capabilities.
- TL110. Another ultra-compact model, the TL110 includes 14.2 megapixels of resolution and a 5X optical zoom lens.
Samsung has not yet announced any prices for this set of cameras, which should be available in February and March. I'll have more detailed information in my blog on each of these cameras in the next several weeks.
As a side note, I'm hearing that additional new camera announcements are coming sometime in the next couple of weeks, this time from a company that did not announce new models at CES 2010. Check back with my blog for additional information on that potential announcement.

Canon Demonstrates New Retinal Camera

At the recent American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting, Canon demonstrated a new digital retinal camera that will allow immediate review of images for eye doctors.
Canon's retinal camera provides images at up to 15.1 megapixels of resolution. The retinal camera works both with dilated and non-dilated pupils, and allows the eye doctor to switch between both modes with one button, simplifying the exam and allowing multiple simultaneous tests.
The retinal camera, called the CX-1 for short, isn't going to make much of a difference for consumer photographers at this point, but such new technologies have a tendency to trickle down eventually.
